Choosing the correct type of wiper blade is crucial to maintain safety while driving. This becomes more important if you live in an area with heavy snow.
How to Change Wiper Blades on a Chevy Silverado 1500
Replacing your Silverado's wiper blades is something you can do in less than an hour. Before spending too much money asking someone to do it for you, here are some general steps you can follow:
- Identify the correct blade size for the driver, passenger, and rear side wiper blades. You can find this information in your owner’s manual. Alternatively, use a tape measure.
- Hold the wiper arm just below the blade then gradually pull it from the windshield. To prevent damage to the glass, place a towel or cloth on the glass, in case the wipers snap back into position.
- If present, search for the wiper tab or clip where the blade attaches to the arm. Use your finger or a flat screwdriver to press the tab down.
- Remove the wiper blade by pulling it straight down toward the windshield.
- Slide the new wiper blade until it clicks in place. Gently lower the blade back against the windshield.
Can Wiper Blades Last 5 Years?
Some silicone wiper blades can last for more than a year, whereas rubber blades give out after a year of service. Wiper blade replacement is cheaper compared to windshield repair, so it’s best to replace wiper blades on a regular basis.
